One of many currently abandoned buildings in Troy, NY, 3325 6th Avenue is a current candidate for rehabilitation. Originally constructed in 1880, this building was designed to be a single family home. In my team's design, we sought out to expand the number of housing units. We ended up with three total housing units, which included finishing the basement and transforming it into a habitable living space. Atriums were developed to get sunlight into the basement. A goal of this project was to create living spaces that people could afford to live in, and we placed a high priority on the luxury of space. We designed a low-tech curtain wall to allow more light to come into the building, and extended the building by 15 feet to allow for the interior to expand, and become less cramped.
